Philadelphia Pennsylvania Hotel History
It all started in Philadelphia in 1907...The elegant Latham Hotel was constructed on the original site of the home of William Bucknell, a world-renowned Philanthropist and the founder of Bucknell University.
In 1915, the fourteen-story structure opened its doors as the Latham Apartment House providing some of the finest housing in all of Philadelphia. The building operated as such until the late 1960s, when a small group of wealthy businessmen converted the apartment house into The Latham Hotel at a time when many investors were converting hotels into condominiums.
It was not until August 15th, 1970 that The Latham Hotel was first opened to the public. It quickly earned a reputation as one of the finest Hotels in America for business travelers. The European-style boutique hotel offered luxury appointments along with all the most modern conveniences of the day.
That spirit lives on in the present-day Latham, which caters to the needs of today's well-traveled business executives and leisure guests visiting the Philadelphia area.
While offering the latest amenities, the hotel's wood paneling and marble lobby continues to evoke the elegance of a simpler age.
